India’s defence self-reliance on track, 90% of new defence orders
Last month, the Defence Acquisition Council also approved capital procurement proposals worth ₹54,000 crore. The DAC’s approvals cover key capability upgrades across the armed forces. The Indian Army will receive new 1,350 HP engines for its T-90 tanks, improving mobility in challenging terrain. The Indian Navy will acquire indigenously developed Varunastra torpedoes to boost anti-submarine warfare. For the Indian Air Force, the approval includes advanced Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) systems, strengthening surveillance and operational effectiveness.
