US Stock Market Highlights: Stocks seesawed on Wednesday (July 16) after a White House official told CNBC that President Donald Trump was edging closer to firing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, initially sending markets lower. The S&P 500 dropped as much as 0.68% before recovering, as Trump later denied the report. Still, traders remained cautious about the potential follow-through. The S&P 500 ended the session up 0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.2% after earlier falling 0.83%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 231 points, or 0.48%, higher after briefly slipping by 264 points, or 0.6%.
