India has legal right to suspend Indus Treaty under Vienna

India and Pakistan’s ties have come under strain yet again, as India mounts its response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. Jammu and Kashmir police said that two of the three terrorists involved in the attack are Pakistani citizens. The cabinet committee on security, India’s highest decision-making body on national security unleashed its response against Islamabad on several fronts. The Indus Waters Treaty has been suspended. There is a blanket ban on all Pakistan visas. India has also downgraded its diplomatic ties with Islamabad by reducing its mission strength. Pakistan has been asked to do the same. Pakistan has termed the suspension of Indus Waters Treaty as an act of war and have shut down its airspace to Indian airline companies.
